    The EU deforestation law entered into force in June 2023 after having been adopted with broad support from the European Parliament and the Council. Now, during its implementation phase, forces, such as certain industry associations, third countries and even agriculture ministers from EU member states are trying to undermine the law.

    Brussels, Wednesday 6 March 2024 – This morning, the Animal Welfare Committee of the Flemish Parliament heard experts on the proposal for a decree “on the welfare of dolphins” submitted by Els Ampe (Voor U). Also on hand: none other than Dr Jane Goodall, the legendary UN peace ambassador and world-renowned authority anthropologist/biologist, whose research on chimpanzees in their own biotope provided groundbreaking scientific knowledge and revolutionised primatology. In a video message, Jane Goodall explained why she is fighting against keeping cetaceans in captivity and pleading for the phasing out of the keeping of dolphins at the Bruges’ Boudewijn Seapark dolphinarium: “No dolphinarium, including the one in Bruge, can meet the needs of these magnificent marine mammals!”

    On Saturday the 17th of February 2024, around 100 people came to plant 2.000 trees in Gooik with us. Several youth groups accompanied our volunteers to plant a new forest such as Gooik Chiro and TADAs childrens (ToekomstAtelierDel’Avenir). We were lucky, the sun warmed us up nicely, and the conditions were perfect for planting.

    On Sunday the 4th of February 2024, 150 people came to plant 2610 trees in Bonheiden with us. Local residents and youth groups accompanied our volunteers to plant a new forest. The weather was on our side, which made planting easier and it turned out to be a beautiful day spent in nature.

    Luminus Forest in One Day 2023 – the results

    On Sunday the 26th of November 2023, around two hundred people planted no fewer than 3,800 trees in Limbourg during Luminus Forest in One Day. Together with Luminus and our technical partner Sylva Nova, it’s the fifth time we’ve organised a successful tree-planting event. It was a fantastic day full of mud, trees and laughter.
