Forest in One Day for a healthier planet
Each year we get together to plant thousands of trees, literally a forest in one day in Belgium. For every tree planted on the Belgian soil, at least the same amount will be planted in Africa.
Forests are crucial for biodiversity and for the entire ecosystems. They help mitigate the effects of climate change, such as soil erosion and droughts. In Belgium, we favour a diversity of original, local species, such as oak, chestnut and maple to support biodiversity. But we also take into account the effects of climate change in the years to come and plant trees that will sustain droughts and tempature changes. The locations tend to be areas where a forest has either been cut down or died. We are always looking for locations to plant a forest, even a tiny one. If you have a location or know someone who does, please contact us.
In turn in Africa, we plant fruit trees as they provide food and habitat for chimpanzees. They also work as corridors to connect different areas of forests, which makes it easier for primates to migrate and helps isolated groups come together for genetic diversity. Reforestation projects also help connect local communities to the forest and turn them into its protectors and guardians.
