With Roots & Shoots South Africa and a Belgian primary school

In recent months, we've been able to organize two bioblitz activities in the magnificent Forêt de Soignes, on the outskirts of Brussels.
The first activity took place on May 21 with pupils from a Brussels school as part of Biodiversity Week. We were able to observe numerous species of plants, animals and insects around the magnificent Cloître-Rouge estate, part of a Natura 2000 protected area.
And the second took place on July 7 with a group of young South Africans visiting Europe! We informed them about the European Natura 2000 network and how to use Obsidentify. It was great to see their interest and how they enjoyed our beautiful forest, and the coolness under the trees on this hot day 🌞
The project was carried out with financial support from the EU LIFE program, as part of the LIFE Belgium biodiversity project.
But what is a Bioblitz ?
A BioBlitz is a fun and collaborative event where volunteers, scientists, and nature enthusiasts work together to identify and document as many species as possible in a specific area within a short period. It’s a great way to explore nature, contribute to important biodiversity research, and connect with your community 🌿
How does it work?
Simply download the ObsIdentify app on your phone. With this handy tool, you can identify plants, animals, mushrooms, trees, insects, and more while participating in the event.
Who can participate?
Anyone with a smartphone and the app is welcome to join—no prior experience needed.
